As friend and former colleague Eoin Higgins told me, "I'll never forget Alan working so hard to help Richie Neal by using his platform at WAMC to spread damaging rumors against Alex Morse—and then not acknowledging my reporting proving it was a baseless smear.
"I think it was really nice to have someone in charge of a local media institution who was so cozy with powerful politicians. Journalism is when you don't challenge power, that's what I always say."
I can't help but feel that DeSantis's error-filled rollout gave him exactly what he deserved. I cannot see DeSantis playing well on a national stage, what with the war on Disney (the Supreme Court having gone out of it's way recently to point out that corporations are people too, and therefore have free speech rights), a six week abortion ban, book bans, and decisions not to teach anything in Florida that might make someone uncomfortable. If DeSantis's goal is to turn the entire country into Florida, I cannot see how that could work
Mr. O, I agree that what works in one big state doesn't necessarily play out well on the big stage. Ask other big-state governors who tried to run for president. For every Ronald Reagan or George W. Bush, there is a John Connolly, a Jeb Bush, a George Pataki and a Rick Perry.
Amen and amen.
I listened to his very last Roundtable panel on the preceding Thursday. He was very subdued and barely said a word.

Oh, and I might add Thomas Dewey to that list.
