“If you were to ask these leaders whether it was hateful for students to address each other without using their preferred pronouns, would we hear pusillanimous evasions about “context?””
Agree with you 100%! But strong and worthy academics and a steady moral compass seem hard to find in combination these days!! Their absence is apparent not only in educational institutions but notably in our government, sadly.
Thanks Carolyn. Yes, a "steady moral compass" is key, as good leaders also lead by example. As for politics, it seems that all too often we fail to attract people to high-profile elected office who are entering politics for the right reasons. I'm not sure what, if anything, can be done about it.
This is my new favorite sentence:
“If you were to ask these leaders whether it was hateful for students to address each other without using their preferred pronouns, would we hear pusillanimous evasions about “context?””
Thank you Jeannie. I must admit that sentence was Andrew Sullivan-inspired. Hope all is well at the t station this a.m.
I guess just voting!
